Common questions
A few things patients often ask us before their visit.
What happens at my first visit?
We take your personal details and medical history, and you'll sign our GDPR forms. Your dentist examines and charts your teeth and gums, takes x-rays only if needed, then talks through any treatment plan and costs before booking further appointments.
Why are my gums bleeding?
Usually it's plaque left on the teeth causing gingivitis or inflammation. If bleeding doesn't settle after a couple of days of thorough home cleaning, get in touch with us.
I've knocked a tooth out — what do I do?
Try to place it back in the socket and bite down gently on a handkerchief to hold it. If that's not possible, keep it in a glass of milk and contact us straight away.
Why does it hurt after an extraction?
Some discomfort is normal and usually settles with over-the-counter painkillers. If pain is still building 3–4 days on, it may mean the clot hasn't formed properly — come back in and we'll dress the socket.
My teeth are sensitive — any tips?
Try a sensitive toothpaste, leaving a thin film on after brushing rather than rinsing it off, and waiting an hour to brush after eating or drinking. Still sensitive after a few days? Give us a call.
